A Philippine passport gets you into Indonesia visa-free for up to 30 days, so a Batam day trip costs you nothing at the visa line — no fee, no visa-on-arrival counter. Bring the passport with at least six months validity, and keep your return ferry ticket handy at immigration.

The ferry, and the fees nobody quotes upfront

The crossing from HarbourFront to Batam Centre takes about an hour, with Batam Fast, Sindo, and Majestic running more than ten sailings a day. The return fare itself is only part of the bill: there is a Singapore departure fee of around S$10, a Batam terminal fee of about S$8, and fuel surcharges on each leg. Together that is roughly S$25 a head on top of the ticket, and it is easy to forget when you are comparing a S$40 fare against a S$50 one. The calculator keeps that line switched on by default.

Why the rupiah does the heavy lifting

One Singapore dollar buys around thirteen thousand rupiah, so island prices look enormous and feel tiny. Before you go

Singapore dollars are widely accepted in Batam, but you will get a better price paying in rupiah at local warungs and salons, so change a little cash or tap your card. Book the ferry back for a realistic time — the last sailings fill up — and leave a buffer for immigration queues on both sides. Coming home, mind your GST relief limit on anything you buy.
