Editorial policy
Editorial standards
filipinos.sg has covered the Filipino community in Singapore since 2009. The standards below describe how we source, verify, label and correct what we publish. Every story carries a named byline; the reporter on that byline is accountable for it.
Sourcing
- Policy claims (MOM, ICA, IRAS, MOH, MAS, DMW, Philippine Embassy Singapore, MWO) are linked to the official source. Where guidance is current at time of publication, the article carries a “Reviewed” date.
- News stories about individuals follow the legal-safety practice of using “alleged” until a charge is filed or a verdict is delivered. Victims are never named.
- Numbers, fees, exchange rates and contact details are verified against primary sources within 48 hours of publication and re-verified on each substantial update.
Independence
- Editorial decisions are made by the editorial team, not by sponsors or partners.
- Sponsored content is clearly labelled with a “Sponsored” badge above the headline and a one-line disclosure block. See our advertising policy.
- Affiliate links (e.g. Shopee, Lazada) are marked with
rel="sponsored"and do not influence which products we recommend.
Verification and corrections
Mistakes happen. When they do, we correct the article, log the change at the bottom of the page, and update the “Reviewed” date. Substantive corrections also appear on our corrections page. To report an error, email the reporter on the byline or editorial@filipinos.sg.
Diversity and community
We cover the full breadth of the Filipino community in Singapore — domestic workers, professionals on employment passes, students, dependants, performers, PRs and citizens. We do not single out any subset for ridicule. Headlines and imagery are reviewed for stereotype and context.
Legal safety
We follow Singapore’s defamation and POFMA frameworks. We do not publish unverified allegations against named individuals. Where a court matter is ongoing, we say so. Where a Singapore agency has issued a correction direction we are not aware of, we ask readers to flag it via corrections.
Ownership
filipinos.sg is an independent community publication founded in 2009 by Jeffrey Giron. It is not owned by, affiliated with, or funded by any government, political party or commercial group.
