Pinagsama-sama namin ang sagot dito — practical, honest, at base sa kung anong legal at available talaga sa Singapore, with the actual products our members are using right now.
Affiliate disclosure: FIS may earn a small commission when you buy through links on this page. It doesn't change the price for you, and it helps keep filipinos.sg free. We only link to products we'd recommend to our own kababayan. This is editorial information, not medical advice — if hair fall is sudden, severe, or you see bald patches, see a doctor first.
Quick view: ano ang FIS hair-fall starter kit
Before the long version, here is the short version. These are the products our community is actually buying and combining:
- The medicine — REGRO 5% Hair Lotion, Growell 5% Scalp Lotion, or Regaine Extra Strength 5% (60ml × 2). Topical Minoxidil. The only thing in this list with decades of clinical evidence for female-pattern hair loss.
- The serum / tonic — Dr.ville Hair Tonic 50ml or Lilyeve Growturn Anti-Hair-Loss Ampoule 100ml. Daily-use leave-in support; complements Minoxidil, doesn't replace it.
- The shampoo — H'ar Dr.Ran Hair Loss Care Egg Protein Shampoo 500ml. Korean Olive Young bestseller; designed for shedding-prone scalp.
- The supplement — Estalife Magnesium Glycinate 1000mg for sleep and stress (both are upstream drivers of hair fall).
We'll explain how each one works, what realistic expectations look like, and the order to layer them in. Read the rest before you buy — kasi yung diagnosis muna, hindi yung shopping cart.
1. Telogen effluvium — sudden, diffuse shedding 2–3 buwan after a stressor (sakit, surgery, panganganak, malaking weight loss, malaking stress, COVID). Often reverses on its own in 6–9 months kapag tinanggal ang trigger.
Common talaga sa Pinay (heavy periods + minimal red meat + tea/coffee with meals = anemia in disguise). Reversible with proper iron and Vitamin C supplementation.
3. Female pattern hair loss (androgenetic) — gradual thinning sa crown at parting, often hereditary. Hindi siya kusang gumagaling. This is the kind that Minoxidil is actually for.
4. Traction alopecia — sa edges (hairline) caused by tight ponytails, tight buns, tight braids. Reversible early; permanent kapag tagal-tagal na.
5. Scalp issues (seborrheic dermatitis, fungal) — itchy, flaky scalp + hair fall. Needs a medicated shampoo (ketoconazole) at minsan a doctor.
Polyclinic blood work is around S$30–S$60 with subsidies; SP-rate clinics around S$80–S$120 out-of-pocket.
- Aircon overload. 24-hour low-humidity environment (office + MRT + condo) tuyot ang scalp at brittle ang shaft. Ang resulta: more breakage, mas konting growth phase.
- Hard water. SG water is treated and on the harder side compared to many parts of PH. Builds up sa scalp, irritates kasing iba.
- Vitamin D deficiency. OFW life = mostly indoors. Vit D deficiency in Singapore-residing Filipinos is well-documented; vit D supports the hair growth cycle.
- Stress + sleep deficit. Two jobs, shift work, sending money home, family back in PH — lahat ito chronic stress, and chronic stress directly drives telogen effluvium. (This is where magnesium and sleep enter the picture.)
- Diet shifts. Sa Pinas: kanin + ulam + sabaw + vegetables sa likod-bahay. Sa SG: hawker meals, less variety, more processed. Less iron, less zinc, less protein per meal sa marami.
Ito ang importante: hair fall sa SG isn't just bad luck — there are usually 2 or 3 of these stacked. Mas mabilis bumalik ang hair kapag tinugunan mo ang kalahati nila.
The medical layer: Minoxidil (REGRO / Growell / Regaine)
This is the only category with decades of FDA and HSA-recognised clinical evidence for female-pattern hair loss. It's the layer you should not skip if your diagnosis is androgenetic thinning.
How it works (the simple version): Minoxidil opens up scalp blood vessels and pushes more dormant hair follicles into the active growth phase. Result over 3–6 months: fewer follicles in the shedding phase at the same time, and gradually thicker individual strands.
In Singapore, topical Minoxidil 2% and 5% is a Pharmacy-Only Medicine under HSA — it can only be sold by a licensed pharmacy with a registered pharmacist on premises. Most of the products on Shopee that we link to are listed by Singapore-registered pharmacy sellers. Always check the seller has a verified pharmacy listing before buying any P-medicine online; if in doubt, walk into Watsons, Guardian, or Unity.
The three Minoxidil products our community is using:
- REGRO 5% Hair Lotion 80ml — locally available, often the most affordable per ml. Same active ingredient as Regaine. Apply 1ml once a day, dry scalp, parted hair.
- Growell 5% Scalp Lotion 100ml — registered with HSA, slightly larger bottle so longer between repurchases. Same once-daily routine.
- Regaine Extra Strength 5% (60ml × 2 bundle) — the most widely-known brand. The 2-bottle bundle works out cheaper per month than buying single bottles in-store, and is a sane way to commit to the 3–6-month patience window.
Realistic expectation: first 4–6 weeks you may notice more shedding, not less. This is normal — Minoxidil pushes resting hairs out so new ones can come in. Stop and you lose the gains. Plan a minimum 6-month commitment.
Side effects to know: scalp itch in week 1–2 (usually settles), sometimes unwanted facial hair if it drips onto skin (apply carefully, wash hands after), occasional fast heartbeat. Stop and see a doctor if you get chest discomfort.
Oral Minoxidil (low-dose) is not registered in Singapore for hair loss. Some clinics prescribe it off-label. Don't buy oral Minoxidil from random online sellers — that's the kind of grey-market activity HSA actively prosecutes.
The serum / tonic layer: Dr.ville and Lilyeve Growturn
These are non-medicine leave-in scalp treatments that complement Minoxidil rather than replace it. Think of them like the moisturiser to Minoxidil's actives — they keep the scalp environment friendly to growth, reduce breakage, and many users find them less drying than Minoxidil alone.
- Dr.ville Hair Tonic 50ml — Hair Growth Serum, Anti-Hair-Loss, Root Booster — popular daily-use tonic for scalp nourishment. Lightweight, doesn't leave residue under aircon, can be used on top of Minoxidil (apply Minoxidil first, dry, then tonic).
- Lilyeve Growturn Anti-Hair-Loss Ampoule 100ml — Korean-format ampoule designed for shedding-prone scalp. The ampoule format is more concentrated than tonics, and many Pinay in our groups pair it with the matching shampoo for a 2-step Korean routine.
What helps prevent further hair fall in this layer:
1. Scalp-circulation support. Massaging tonic in for 30 seconds increases blood flow to the follicles. Aircon-tight scalps benefit from this more than people realise.
2. Moisture barrier rescue. Aircon + hard water in SG strips lipids from the scalp. A daily tonic restores some of that, reducing the brittle-scalp inflammation that pushes more hairs into the shedding phase.
3. Reducing breakage at the shaft. Most Pinay assume "hair fall" is follicle loss — but a chunk of what you see on the comb is actually mid-shaft breakage. Tonics with peptides and amino acids strengthen the shaft itself.
Realistic expectation: these will not regrow a thinning crown on their own. Used alongside Minoxidil and a gentle shampoo, they can reduce daily shedding within 4–8 weeks and noticeably soften the scalp.
The shampoo layer: Dr.Ran Egg Protein Shampoo
A shampoo touches your scalp for 60–90 seconds. It is not a magic regrowth product. What it can do is stop making things worse — and that matters when you're combining all the other layers.
H'ar Dr.Ran Hair Loss Care Egg Protein Shampoo 500ml (Black Formula) is a Korean Olive Young hair-loss-care bestseller that our members keep flagging in the women's groups.
Why this kind of shampoo helps prevent hair fall:
1. Egg protein and amino acids coat the hair shaft, reducing friction breakage between washes.
2. Sulphate-light formula is gentler on the scalp's lipid layer than most drugstore shampoos — less stripping = less inflammation = fewer hairs forced into the shedding phase.
3. Designed for daily-shedding scalps rather than oily-volume targeting, so it doesn't over-clarify when you're already losing hair.
Use it 3–4× a week, not daily. Pair with a separate gentle shampoo for the in-between days if your scalp gets oily fast.
