Friday, 12 June 2026 marks 128 years since Emilio Aguinaldo read the Declaration of Philippine Independence at Kawit, Cavite. For Filipinos in Singapore, that anniversary is a real Friday on the calendar this year. The embassy's flag-raising lands first. The community's own Fiestang Pinoy takes the weekend. A small string of food, mass, and family events fills the days around it.
Put these in your calendar now. Watch the embassy Facebook page in the first week of June for exact times. Plan to make a long weekend of it without burning a day in queues.
The flag-raising at 20 Nassim Road
The Philippine Embassy in Singapore holds a flag-raising ceremony every year on 12 June at the Chancery. In 2025, the 127th edition ran at 20 Nassim Road. Ambassador Medardo G. Macaraig led, the embassy staff sang the anthem, and Filipinos in Singapore stood with them in barong and Maria Clara. The 128th edition follows the same playbook.
If you want to go, treat it as a morning event. The ceremony usually starts before office hours. Take a ride-hail to the gate, not onto Nassim Road itself. Wear something respectful. Bring water; June in Singapore at 8am is already warm. The embassy posts the exact start time on Facebook in the week before. Check facebook.com/PHinSingapore on the Monday of that week.
The flag-raising is free and open. You do not need to RSVP. You will see consular staff, Filipino community leaders, students from local schools, and a handful of long-time kababayan who go every year because they always have.
Fiestang Pinoy at Suntec Hall 406
Fiestang Pinoy is the big community day. The Philippine Embassy confirmed in press release PR-144-2026, dated 5 May 2026, that the event returns this year to mark the 128th anniversary of Philippine Independence. The venue is Suntec Singapore, Hall 406.
Last year's Fiesta ng Pamilyang Pilipino, the immediate predecessor, drew thousands. There were dance numbers from regional groups, food stalls from Filipino restaurants in Singapore, a kid's corner, kiosks from BDO Remit, GCash and PhilHealth, and a long stage programme with live OPM. Expect the same shape this year. The embassy lists Hall 406 as confirmed; the embassy's Facebook page is the source for the exact date and full programme.
A few practical notes from last year that will repeat:
Bring cash. Some food stalls and the smaller vendors do not take PayNow. Singapore dollars are fine.
Bring the kids. Strollers fit. There is a kiddie area with face painting and balloons.
Bring ID. PhilHealth, OWWA, DMW and a handful of other agencies set up Sunday-style assistance counters. If you go intending to renew a record or check on a contribution, take your passport, OEC, or whatever document the agency needs.
Wear comfortable shoes. Hall 406 is large. By 1pm you will have walked further than you planned.
Mass, food and the rest of the weekend
The Catholic side of Kalayaan stays at the Cathedral of the Good Shepherd at Queen Street and the Church of the Sacred Heart at Tank Road. Both schedule Filipino Masses in the days around 12 June. Sacred Heart in particular has been the home of the Filipino chaplaincy in Singapore for decades. If you want to start the day at mass before heading to Suntec, the early Sunday Filipino mass is the usual choice.
The food side is wider than you might think.
Max's at City Square Mall and at VivoCity runs special menus around independence week most years. Boodle sets for sharing. Crispy pata. Halo-halo deals.
JT's Manukan at Lucky Plaza will be at peak crowd from Friday lunch to Sunday closing. If you want their inasal without queueing 40 minutes, go before 11.30am or after 9pm.

Tapa King at Lucky Plaza and the newer heartland branches do the most reliable silog plates if you want a quiet breakfast before the embassy event.
For something more involved, The Orchard Hotel's "Manila Meets Madrid" Filipino-Spanish buffet runs through June. It launched on 18 May 2026 to mark the 57th anniversary of Philippines-Singapore diplomatic relations and was built with chefs from The Heritage Hotel Manila. Pricier than Lucky Plaza, but the lechon, paella, ensaymada and leche flan are the real thing.
How to bring the kids and the older folks
A few tips if you are taking the family.
Lola and Lolo: skip the flag-raising and start at Fiestang Pinoy. Suntec has lifts, seating, and aircon. Take the MRT to Esplanade or Promenade and walk in through the underground link, which puts you out of the sun.
Toddlers: bring snacks and a change of clothes. The kid's area gets warm. Halo-halo on a 2-year-old is a hard reset.
Teenagers: rope them into the stage programme. There is usually a singing or dance segment that takes audience volunteers. They will pretend they hate it. They will talk about it for a month.
Mixed family with a Singaporean partner: this is the easiest day of the year to introduce them to your culture without it feeling stiff. There is food. There is music. There is a queue. They will understand.
What may change before 12 June
A few moving parts.
The Fiestang Pinoy date and programme. The embassy press release confirmed the venue and the occasion. The exact day of the event and the full schedule are released closer to the date on the embassy Facebook page and on philippine-embassy.org.sg. Set a reminder for the first week of June and check then.
Restaurant menus and promotions. Independence-week deals at Max's, JT's, Tapa King and other Filipino restaurants in Singapore are confirmed each year on each brand's own Facebook page. They tend to drop seven to ten days before the long weekend.
Embassy advisory updates. If there is a security or weather advisory that affects the flag-raising, the embassy posts it on Facebook and on its homepage. Refresh both on the morning of 12 June.
A closing note
Kalayaan in Singapore is not the kind of public holiday that closes the MRT or empties the office. Most kababayans here work that Friday. The embassy event is before work for many. Fiestang Pinoy is the day you take your family to.
The mood is steady. You will hear "kumusta" and "kabayan" more than usual at Lucky Plaza. The barong will outnumber the t-shirts at Nassim Road for one morning. A song from Eraserheads or Apo Hiking Society will play at Suntec and someone in the row in front of you will mouth every word. That is the day.
Last reviewed 26 May 2026. Programme details for the embassy flag-raising and Fiestang Pinoy are released closer to the date. Verify the day and time on philippine-embassy.org.sg and facebook.com/PHinSingapore before you go.
