Pickleball is exploding in Singapore. Per SportSG data via Pickleball News PH and Sassy Mama SG, there are now over 5,000 active players in SG, public court bookings have tripled in the last 18 months, and SG opened 16 new public courts in early 2026 alone.
Kababayan are jumping in — because pickleball is cheap (S$3.30–5/hour off-peak), low-impact, easy to learn, and fits into a busy OFW schedule.
What is pickleball, briefly
A racket sport that's a hybrid of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. Small paddle, perforated plastic ball ("wiffle ball"), played on a court roughly 1/4 the size of a tennis court. Doubles is the standard format. Singles also playable.
Key appeal:
Easy to start (learn in 20 minutes).
Low impact on knees/hips vs tennis.
Social — usually played 4-up in doubles; rotation common.
