Filipino soprano Anna Migallos stars as Violetta Valery in The Opera People's La Traviata, at the Wild Rice Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre from 29 October to 1 November 2026.
Why go
Migallos shares the lead role with Renata Hann Sungwon. Tenors David Charles Tay and Jonathan Charles Tay share the role of Alfredo Germont. Baritone Cao Yixiao plays Giorgio Germont.
The rest of the cast includes Cherie Tse, Akiko Atao, Daniela Leska, Jonathan Macpherson, Ted Ngoo, Edward Kim, Shawn Liew and Dennis Lau. Lien Boon Hua leads the music direction, with the Wayfarer Sinfonietta accompanying.
This La Traviata moves the story to pre-independence Singapore. The production draws on the ideals and contradictions around Singapore's 1961 Women's Charter. It asks whose lives are recognised, whose sacrifices are remembered, and what becomes of the women who fall beyond the boundaries of an acceptable society.
